Looks like we’re finally getting that nice spring weather (in Calgary) we’ve been waiting for since last October.
And with the re-emergence of this beautiful weather, I get flashbacks from last spring when one of my good friends introduced me to Calgary’s own Beach Season (Samuel Avant and Simon Blitzer) by linking me this dope interview feature Noisey did on them.
I instantly clicked on the video “Midnights” to find out what Beach Season was all about.
A song that included groovy chillwave elements alongside harmonizing RnB vocals in which Sam called this style “Booty Wave”. Simply put for me, I call this ‘feel-good’ music. Similarly to Toro Y Moi’s type of vibe, Beach Season delivers a brand new taste of waviness that’s got me grooving constantly throughout their songs.
It’s awesome to witness the stereotypical Calgarian culture being challenged and diversified by being introduced a laid-back style of music that I can just chill out with either by myself or with the homies.
I hope to see these two continuously grow and succeed, showing that our home is more than just a place that appreciates country dancing and folk music.
A new album release is slated for later this year. But in the meantime check out their 6-track EP “Internet Evening” that is a MUST-LISTEN.
