RLGT Style: Spring Training
“hits motherf***er, hits; BARRY BONDS!”
As you saw earlier in the week, in our last RLGT Style (“A Quick Run In The Park“, by Raymond), urban fashion often takes notes from the sports culture around us. From running shoes, to joggers, to ball caps, sports culture finds a way to influence our daily apparel choices. With Baseball season starting tonight (ladies who love baseball pants, check out the Dino’s Baseball page… no sus), and Spring weather kicking in, another great sports trend has began to emerge in urban fashion. Having lived with a baseball player for a few years now, I was bound to pick up something… and I’m not talking dusty Nike running shoes, sorry Colin!
Baseball jerseys, baseball tee’s, and raglans (those 3/4 sleeve baseball style tees), are all perfect options for the last few weeks of winter layering, or to embrace the spring breeeeeze, in a sporty, classic way. Baseball jerseys and tees can be the perfect option for school, hanging out, or even dressing up (with the right option). Check out a quick gallery below of some popular options you can try out for yourself:
As you can see from the gallery, you can find many different styles and options when it comes to baseball gear. The 3 pieces you see above include:
- ALIFE “Mr. November” Baseball Jersey ($125 over at DEADSTOCK)
- On The Bias Plain Black Mesh Baseball Tee (Purchased for $30 in the states, but similar ones are available anywhere, such as places like Urban Outfitters)
- Retro Majestic Sammy Sosa Chicago Cubs MLB jersey (And when I say retro I mean it… was my Uncle’s jersey about 20 years ago)
Besides the Retro Cubs obviously (Wore that to my first Chance the Rapper concert… the “shouts that nigga Sosa” line got pretty rowdy to say the least), my ALIFE jersey is one of my favourite new pieces. I got it for X-Mas this year, and it took me a while to figure out how to rock it, but I’m starting to find different ways to incorporate it. Layered over a hoodie (on a colder day), or simply over a tee with some denim is a foolproof way to rock these tees. Plain enough to rock with accessories and some crisp summer shoes, but flashy enough to be the centerpiece of a fit.
(Above: the back of my ALIFE jersey, along side one of my Rastaclat bracelets. Awesome, inexpensive
accessories for just about any fit)
Baseball tee’s are gaining popularity, and expect to see a resurgence of them over the summer. A few summers ago Basketball jerseys were the thing, but this year expect to see some little-league inspired fashion, with your favourite pair of Roshes, and a ball cap. Simple, yet clean, with lots of room for personalization. You don’t have to be sporty to dress sporty, and that goes for guys or girls.Nothing sexier than a girl who ain’t afraid to rock a ball cap.
Anyways, you know the spiel by now. ROCK WHAT YOU LIKE. My personal style may not be for everyone, but I put it out there because even I help 1 person throw together a summer fit, then I’ve accomplished my goal.
Two words: one love,
