“You’re my dreamcatcher, dream team, team captain
Matter fact, I ain’t seen you in a minute let me take my butt to church“
If you have been following the budding career of Chance the Rapper, Donnie Trumpet, and the whole Social Experiment crew (SoX for short), then you will understand thesignificance of theatre, and more specifically the theatrical production of The Lion King, and its large impact on the gang. Chance, while announcing SURF (Donnie’s album to be released very soon), also announced the idea of a theatrical, broadway style live performance, unlike any other concert you have ever been too. Staying with that theme, in the brand new video for “Sunday Candy”, we see the broadway theme from the SoX for the first time. The first words that came to my mind when watching “Sunday Candy” were “ghetto opera” (in the best way possible). A group of young, city kids coming together and making something awesome, complete with rapping, juking, triumphant ending, and the works, with a little “freaknik” tied into it. Jamilo Woods adds a beautiful touch to the chorus and outro as well.
Along with “Nothing Came To Me“, this continues the buzz for the upcoming, aforementioned SURF album that is due to drop any day now (purely based off of both of Chance’s prior projects being released in April… and the tweet below).
You know what happens in April
