RLGT Style: It Ain’t Ralph Doe!
As the ‘Ye lyric from his verse on Theophilis London’s track “Can’t Stop” goes, “everything she was doin’ was cool, but it ain’t Ralph, doe”. Today’s fashion trick is something that both ‘Ye and maybe even your room-mate will remind you isn’t actually Ralph (Lookin’ at you, Troy). #Sadboy’s rejoice, it’s not 2001 and my name isn’t Yung Lean, but todays trick is the infamous Polo hat fad (if you can call it that). This may be the most simple style tip I ever give out on this blog, but its honestly one of my favourites at the moment.
Now, to aquire one of these stylish “polo” style caps you can fly out to a prestigous polo club in the United States, head into the fan-store (if polo fan-stores actually exist), and pick out your favourite Ralph Lauren Polo cap. With flights and the actual Polo match, this will only cost a couple thousand most likely. Or, you can do what I did. Stroll into your local Winners, walk into the mens section, and find the hats. Each of these hats were a whopping $9.99 (plus tax), although these are only the “U.S. Polo Assn.” equivalent. Of course I was exagerrating previously about how to get a real Ralph Polo cap as well. My local Winners sells them as well, for about $19.99 which is also a great deal… but for ballers-on-a-budget, 2>1.
The great thing about these hats, is that beside being perfectly inexpensive, they can EASILY be dressed up with a nicer outfit, unlike a typical fitted or snapback, but can also be beaten up with a fun fit. For me, I simply picked up 2 in contrasting colors, and when I don’t feel like taming the curls, I pop one on with any fit, and I’m good to go! Below you’ll see some examples from a couple #dadbois (no typo, our dad-bod game just too stronkk) rocking some polo caps, both dressed up, and dressed down.
In conclusion, as the spiel goes, this option may not be for everyone, but for 10 bucks how can you go wrong? Plus many are predicting this to be the year of the #sadboy, with counter-culture fashion making a strong push towards the mainstream.
Mature your own Canadian summer-tux with this easy option too! Rock what you like, be a taste-maker, not a taste-tester!
