All though we are a Canadian site, we praise those around the world creating and sharing.

redleafgoldteeth 100 word review: JONO DAS – ILLUSTRATIONS EP

Keeping up with the New Zealand theme set by Ray last week with his review of Spycc’s Wuave Season, today we are pleased to introduce a different Kiwi, this time jack-of-all-trades Jono Das and his Illustrations EP. The EP features 3 distinct sounds; Hip-hop, soul, and jazz. One standout, the title track of the project, “Illustrations” features Third3ye and eo and shows off the beatmaker’s smooth abilities. Another, “Bad Planet”, serves as the Jazz centrepiece. Perhaps though, the main highlight for me was the closer, “La Salida”, which features the earthy, beachy vibes that tie the entire project together. Overall this project is indeed “better than the fish” (Jono described to me how this EP was better than the fish that he drew when he was 7 years old, which at the time he thought was the greatest thing he would ever make).

Rating: 79/100, solid project creatively, it feels like 3 projects in 1. Projects like this can be risky and feel disjointed, but for the most part Illustrations achieved singularity seemingly seamlessly.

Standout Tracks: “Illustrations”, “La Salida”, and “Bad Planet” for all the reasons above.

Overall, Illustrations has all the makings of a solid project, especially for an “amateur” one. Sonically it has the production value to make you say “U Wot M8?“, and the feels elicited by Jono are enough to make you want to book a flight out to NZ right now. Illustrations is truly a fridge-worthy piece of art. Check out all of Jono Das’ project, here, and when you hit him on Facebook let him know that RLGT sent you.

All I can really say is that when the RLGT world tour kicks off, I hope I have a place to stay!

Two Words; one love
