A highlight on the site since our beginning has been some strong showings from a ton of West Coast, #BestCoast rappers and producers, ranging from Seattle’s Raz Simone, to LA’s KR, but recently a group of Oregon standouts have had me thinking; Is Oregon up next?
Our first taste of Oregon happened a few months ago with the amazing BROKEBOYSYNDROME EP from Portland rapper TOPE, and his visuals for “Miss Me When I’m Gone”. Today, TOPE has blessed us by putting us on to 2 more Oregon up-and-comers, rapper Mikey Vegaz, and producer Jay Tablet.
Mikey Vegaz, the Portland rapper who dropped off his latest album, Confessions Of A Hustler, last week keeps the buzz going with the new visuals for the albums title track, over J.Cole’s “January 28th” instrumental. Vegaz definitely has a more “hard” sound than TOPE, while maintaining content, further proving the diversification of sounds coming out of the region. Peep the visuals for “COAH”, below.
Repping for the production front on Oregon’s hip-hop movement is producer Jay Tablet. Tablet has been killing it lately, and he returns today with a Canadian connection collab with Swollen Members legend, Madchild, on “Wish To Death”. The track serves as the second single off of his forthcoming project, Pay The Tab. Stream the new single below.
With the amount of talent in Oregon waiting for their shot, its only a matter of time before Portland is known as the next big hot-bed for hip hop talent. Get a jump on everyone sleeping, and go pick up TOPE’s project here, stream Confessions Of A Hustler here, and pre-order Pay The Tab here!
