Chi-town (via everywhere) director, Austin Vesely has been having a good year. The 24 year old Save-Money creative has been leaving his mark all over, first with Donnie Trumpet’s “Sunday Candy” video, and a today he scores another big gig, with Kehlani’s official video for “The Way”. (EDIT: A previous version of this article listed Vesely as the creator of “Mr Happy”, which was in fact directed by Colin Tilley) Vesely has been Mr. The Rapper’s go-to, who is also featured in the You Should Be Here track, which makes his inclusion in this latest set of visuals no surprise. Vesely plans to release his first feature film in 2016, SLICE, also starring Chance.
Following last week’s Trey Songz remix, the video for this standout cut features Lani Tsunami and Chano in some classic 90’s vibes (word to MC Hammer), dancing in front of a plain black and white backdrop. During Chance’s verse, the same dance between the 2 that set the internet rumour mill on fire a few weeks back is re-enacted, with Chance attempting to “put Lani’s back out”, as the tweets stated. Kehlani shows her versatility throughout with a barrage of flashy dance-moves, even stunting on her back-up dancers at times.
Watch the wavy new video for “The Way” below, and let us know what you think of is in the comments below. Look for the track to make a mainstream splash very soon, and if you haven’t streamed Kehlani’s full You Should Be Here project yet, cop it over on her Soundcloud now. The hype around this mixtape was well worth it, even being praised as one of the top ALBUM’s of the year so far. Plus she’s bae, so there’s that too.
