WE’RE BACK! After an extended week break while working on new things, amongst other distractions (more on that tomorrow), the team is back. We’ve been hard at work on a ton of awesome new stuff for y’all, including new mechandise that will be dropping soon, and hopefully some upgrades to the website soon! As always, keep it locked to our Facebook and Twitter for all of the most recent updates!
In this segment, we will be highlighting things that we find dope, basically, things that we think you should check out. This will range from accounts we are following, music we are listening too, clothes we are wearing, and the products we are using, etc. Every Monday a different writer will be chiming in, so you’ll get a little taste of all our unique styles.
Without further ado, lets get into it.
Sh*t We Like: Week Of August 17th (Hospey)
What We Are Listening To: Illroots Radio V8
Noted many times on this blog, is the family over at Illroots. One of our main influences behind starting RLGT, Illroots is a Chicago based “professional rap site” who’ve been at it for quite a few years now, while still repping the new school, and a completely unique outlook on the industry. Since their introduction they’ve expanded vastly, including their clothing line ILLAMERICA, to their SXSW annual show called the ILLMORE, and most notably becoming part of the Complex media group (#websitegoals). One cool thing that they’ve been doing for a while now is their “Illroots Radio” soundcloud series, which are basically mega-mixes of all of the top urban music at the moment. Coming from someone who runs a predominately music blog, I still find myself discovering new additions to the playlist every time a new volume is dropped. V8 is no exception.
While you peep the rest of this article, check out Illroots Radio V8 below, to hear some heeeeat from the likes of Drake, Thugger, Future, Chance the Rapper, Bryson Tiller and more! Head to the Illroots site to check out the full tracklist! Stay jiggy, fam.
Who We Are Following: WITCHORIA
When I’m searching through my Instagram each week to find new talent, it’s usually a struggle to pick JUST 1 account; this week was not a struggle. In fact, it’s almost shocking that I’ve skipped over graphic artist WITCHORIA for this long, considering the amount of time I’ve been enamored by her work. The Brooklyn, NY based artist, real name Victoria Siemer, has been creating stunning edits that reflect particularity honest, yet sometimes gloomy, feelings of despair, heartbreak, and humour. This goes from light edits that display brutally honest things like “It’s a beautiful lie” in front of a beautiful setting, or computer loading screens manipulated to say things such as “Falling Apart”, while slowly eclipsing full progress. Perhaps though, my favourite series is her set of land or cityscape photos that she transforms with different shapes to create something completely surreal, that you half wish you could see with your eyes in real life.
Check out a small gallery of WITCHORIA’s work below, but be sure to head to her Instagram for the full effect. If you dig her work as much as I do, be sure to head over to Society6 to grab one of her prints for an extremely reasonable price. (P.S. Victoria, if you read this, I could really use some new prints *Kermit Face*)
What We Are Rocking: Vandal Collective
A few weeks ago, while doing my weekly look-at-internet-clothing-that-I-probably-can’t-afford routine, I found myself on Karmaloop on the 4th of July, promoting some ridiculous sales, including things that I actually could afford! This is when I came across Vandal Collective for the first time, highlighted by some great looking outerwear. This in turn led me to the Vandal website, where I found the jacket of my dreams, and put in my order only to find out that the jacked was freshly out of stock. Fortunately the people over at Vandal handled the situation extremely professionally, and ended up hooking me up with a couple free items from their catalogue to my great surprise. The great thing about the “little” brands, is the personality that comes along with them; rather than recieving an automated reply, I got to talk to a rela person, who actually helped me out. I dig.
Vandal handled the situation great, and I ended up picking up a new hat and jacket from the site, which arrived a few days ago, and I’ll be the first to say it is FRESH. Peep the pics below, and be sure to check out all of Vandal’s gear over on the website! Be sure to keep an eye out for Fall 15 as well, coming soon!
What We Are Watching: Suits Season 5
Long story short, if you didn’t know already, Suits is a dope show. The 5th season of the legal-drama about a fraud turned lawyer genius has been here for a few weeks, and its already full of twists and turns. Plus the rising presence of Rachel Zane (Meghan Markle) makes the show a can’t miss for any hormonal lover-boys out there like myself. I don’t have much more the say besides go watch the first episode on Netflix, and I can promise you that you will be hooked.
Catch Suits on USA network, or watch it over on ProjectFreeTv like a normal person, every Wednesday night!
