Miguel’s Wildheart is the best R&B album of the year. Since his own personal renaissance started in late 2011, the 24th century baldheaded crooner come pseudo 70’s pompadour rocker has been toying with psychedelia and sex, but to a far more exuberant extent than The Weeknd’s 5am self-absorbed jerkoffs. Where Abel’s stuck in a life he’d rather not be, Miguel’s living his to the fullest. “Coffee” is for the morning after, “nwa” is for the R&B thug flexing his juevos, and now “waves” is getting the visual treatment it deserves as the most slept on party anthem this year. Drugs are taken, shirts are taken off. J Cole and Wale stunt in the corner. Miguel? He’s basking in tropical waters kept warm by his own radiation. Making his own waves, and riding them at the same time.
