Ray to Riches: Volume 4

Welcome to the Halloween edition of Ray to Riches. There is actually nothing scary about this week’s segment. If you want to check out some legit Halloween material, then check this out. Volume 4 is a really exciting one for me. A new feature from BADBADNOTGOOD, another random fire track from Vic Mensa, and of course Negele’s hubby Chance the Rapper.

For those tuning in for the first time, every week there will be a new playlist containing the hottest, newest, most underrated tracks that have surfaced during the week. Along with a new weekly playlist, if you want to dive a little more deeper into my life, I’ve included a short story that basically could be about anything that sums up my week. Experiences, memories, feelings, etc. This is my weekly recap in a nutshell.

1 week. 1 story. 7 days. 7 songs. This is,

Ray to Riches: Volume 4

Topic: That one annoying room mate that you hate to love but you end up hating even more

When my room mate read Ray to Riches: Volume 3 last week, he was questioning why I never included him in the story. Well, this week’s story for you bud. For those who wonder, care, mildly ponder or don’t give a flying fuck, I’ve been living out here with a room mate. Great thing is, we’ve already been friends since my first year of university.

Bad thing is, he doesn’t cook, doesn’t clean, doesn’t do laundry. He lays on the couch with his nuts hanging out and his body odor is horrendous. He thinks light bulbs are rechargeable and likes to use toilet water to wash his hands. He always leaves a mess where ever he is, and most importantly walks around the place with his outdoor shoes on (that’s a Canadian no-no). You asked for it, you got it.

Aside from all of that, he’s been an awesome room mate so far. We’ve been basically spending all of our time together. We eat together, go to the gym together, go out on weekends together. I’m pretty much living out a temporary marriage with him. It’s been a challenge trying to accommodate for both parties, but I think we’ve been enjoying ourselves so far. I’m not quite too sure what y’all are interested in hearing about, so I’m just going to give you a random story about my room mate that’s happened during our time here.

First week in, and we’re just starting to settle into our new place. At this point I still haven’t gotten my mattress so I was literally sleeping on the floor. Me, obviously being the responsible one, told this guy we should probably give this place a good ‘ol cleaning. I tell my room mate to go into the utilities room and grabs the first mop he sees.

As he prepares himself to clean for the first time in his life, he takes one big swing with the mop. Before the damm mop could even reach the floor, my room mate literally smashes the light that’s above him. Not even one week in it and we already broke something. I honestly couldn’t believe it. I remember staring at each other and thinking “wow we’re going to be here for one year”. Pretty sure property damage wasn’t a part of our list of things to do for the year.

I wouldn’t say he smashed it, but he did technically break it. After carefully brainstorming like the engineers we are, we decided to super glue the pieces back together. Two months later, I’m glad to tell you all that it’s still broken. If there’s two things that I took away from this experience, it was 1) never teach an old dog new tricks and 2) duct tape shouldv’e been our #1 choice.

An exaggeration of “smashed” to say the least…
