Ray to Riches: Volume 16

Greetings, young masters. Every week there’s a new reason to be excited with a new playlist of the hottest, newest, and underrated tracks that have surfaced during the week for your pleasure. As you jam along to the new tunes, if you’re a little more interested in my own (boring) life, then there’s a short story included that covers virtually any topic that reflects what I’m feeling at the time. These could be memories, experiences, feelings, and etc. This is my weekly recap in a nutshell.

1 week. 1 story. 7 days. 7 songs.  This is,

Ray to Riches: Volume 16

Date: February 21st, 2016
Title: Please baby, no more parties in LA

It`s been just over one week since the release of The Life of Pablo, Kanye West`s latest project. Since then, my body has been in a state of euphoria. I blocked off all other forms of music and completely invested all my time into this new album.

“Kanye is an asshole”

“This motherfucker ain’t in debt”

“He’s absolutely insane [on Twitter]”.

Those are just some of the comments I`ve been hearing this week. Unfortunate, but accurate. I feel like those headlines are taking away the spotlight from this project. I`m not trying to defend him as a Kanye West stan/fanboy but I’m just saying I’m disappointed that things like that aren’t allowing the album to be accepted in a more positive light.

Who really cares though right? The Life of Pablo is just another album. Kanye West is just another man. So why bring him up? I’m not quite entirely sure myself. I find it interesting when people tell me they like Yeezy’s music, but they hate him as a person. But isn’t the music created based on Kanye… himself? His personality, perspectives, thoughts, feelings – those elements are used to curate his music in some way. Do you see the contradiction in this or is it just me?

It’s like a double-edged sword. We get blessed with what’s critically acclaimed to be the best hip-hop we’ve heard this generation, maybe of all time, but we also get this ass-hole of a person giving his dumb opinions on certain matters that really he shouldn’t be commenting on. We can’t have one with having the other. #deepthoughts
