In this segment we will be highlighting things that we find dope, that we think you should check out. This will range from accounts we are following, music we are listening too, clothes we are wearing, and the products we are using. Along the way, you’ll get a little taste of all our unique styles; Be a taste-maker, not a taste-tester.
Without further ado, lets get into it.
Sh*t We Like: March 2016
What We’re Listening To: Bas – Too High To Riot
When Kendrick Lamar drops a surprise collection of songs, and 2 Chainz & Lil Wayne drop a collaboration album on the same damn day, who comes out on top? Bas.
Yes, the answer to the trick question that was Friday, March 4th was Dreamville rapper Bas. The new project, Too High To Riot, has to be any rap fans potential AOTY thus far in 2016, featuring label-mates J. Cole & Cozz. A few of the standout cuts for those hoping to give a project a quick peek include “Housewives”, and “Night Job” (originally off of Dreamville 2). Long story short, the 12 song project delivers J.Cole quality story telling, combined with Kendrick-esque realness.
Check out a stream of the project below, and expect to hear a lot of buzz about this project in the coming weeks as the dust settles.
What We’re Watching: Illegal Civilization Short Film
You might recall the rambunctious crew over at Illegal Civ from Sh*t We Like back in December with their team vid “Chestnuts Roasting“. Recently, multi-talented team member Mikey Alfred teamed up with the FADER to produce a brand new skate vid/ short doc.
“The past year,” Alfred told The FADER, “we’ve been taking narrative film making seriously, renting locations and using sound guys, the works.” When The FADER stepped in to collaborate on a video project, the Illegal Civilization team had a treatment ready and waiting. “Me and my friend Lionel Boyce had written the general concept of the short already, so the timing was insane. FADER paired me with [the director] Aaron Brown, who helped make the ideas a little more grounded. He added an art aspect to it instead of us always trying to make these super dialogue-heavy Scorsese-feeling pieces.”
Centered around a wild story line about abductions, security guards, and cliffhangers, the entire Illegal Civ gang make cameos throughout, and all in all its an extremely entertaining 11 minutes.

Who We’re Cheering For: Duke & Oklahoma #MarchMadness
It’s every sports fan’s favourite time of the year… March Madness! The 64 team college slugfest kicks off on the 17th, and we couldn’t be more excited (you can even expect another prediction post coming soon from Andy).
As the season draws to a close with conference championships, and Selection Sunday nears, I have a few personal favourites that I’ll be cheering for come tournament time. The Oklahoma Sooners, the 6th rank team in the country, led by future NBA star & Wooden Award nominee Buddy Hield will be obvious front-runners to make the Final Four. My personal “sleeper” pick (if you can even call them that), Duke will be determined to have a strong showing. Led by freshman phenom Brandon Ingram and sophomore superstar Grayson Allen, the Coach K’s squad can never be counted out. Look for them to make a deep run in the tourney later this month; In March, anything can happen.
