Bon Jovi an 80’s Music Legacy
During the 1980’s music formed a generation. Whether it is Michael Jackson because everyone wanted to Beat It, and loved Thriller, which can arguably be the birth of MTV.
To Madonna being Like a Virgin these solo singers weren’t the only ones to bring notoriety to 80’s music many still remember the Hair band rockers of the 1980’s from Van Halen, to Cinderella, the band Bon Jovi began a music revolution that still continues almost 26 years later.
The band was formed with the band’s namesake Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, David Bryan, and Tico Torres who are still members of the band to this day with bassist Alec John Such who left the band in 1994. Their long hair, the catchy lyrics and the songs that showed the struggle of couples in love, teenagers not being understood, to basic shout it out loud of giving Love a Bad Name and the wrong person being Bad Medicine in a relationship you know you should have never started to begin with the you lived in Bon Jovi’s world.
The group formed in 1983 released two albums with minimal success before releasing Slippery When Wet their breakout album that had Livin on a Prayer which Jon himself has stated that he never thought it would make it as a single this song still is requested on radio’s and concerts alike. Wanted Dead of Alive, You Give Love a Bad Name, and Never Say Goodbye were top singles for the band and thanks to Never Say Goodbye this helped make people realize that not only were they rockers but that they could carry a ballad and let it ride the charts easily. To this day Bon Jovi is know for their ballads.
Over the years Bon Jovi has been known for their rock and their ballads but the longevity of the bad is a testament to its fans. Tours continue to sell out regularly and after a brief hiatus when Bon Jovi and Sambora recorded solo albums Bon Jovi’s ultimately was a complete soundtrack for Young Guns II. With the song Blaze of Glory the anthem for the movie.
Whether you are an old fan or just learning of Bon Jovi I can guarantee that you will not be disappointed in listening to their music. If you don’t want to purchase the individual albums I suggest their album Crossroads. It has the best of their earlier albums along with other tracks through the years. Bon Jovi is a mainstay in rock culture and will continue to be long after the band stops to make music. So I suggest listening to any tracks from any of the albums whether the older version or recent albums you won’t be disappointed.
